The Proxmark III is a device developed by Jonathan Westhues that enables sniffing, reading and cloning of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags. You can find more information in this link.
The document will guide you to set-up Proxmark3 on Kali Linux.
First, we need to install some softwares that we need. These softwares probably have 800+M.
sudo apt-get install git \ build-essential \ libreadline5 \ libreadline-dev \ gcc-arm-none-eabi \ libusb-0.1-4 \ libusb-dev \ libqt4-dev \ ncurses-dev \ perl \ pkg-config
Clone software from Github
After install softwares, we need to copy Proxmark3’s software from github, we can use git command to easily copy it.
git clone https://github.com/Proxmark/proxmark3.git
Because it is a raw software, after copy this software, we need to compile it. If you follow my document, the compile should be successful. If any error happened, please let me know.
cd proxmark3 make clean && make
Check Device Information
Then, plug in the Proxmark3 device on your Kali Linux. Due to Linux system is totally different with Windows, it will not show any device in your Linux desktop. We need to use command line to check these device information, running follow command to check the information.
This command will show whole information about the usb device when linux begin running.
dmesg|grep -i usb
Then, we will find whole information about USB. The last few information is Proxmark3. We will find that it using CDC bootloader (cdc_arm …), and the device’s name is ttyACM0.
If your device does not use CDC Bootloader, please upgrade your device.
Go to client folder, and then run the command. Please make sure that the device path is correct! Then, you will see that your device connect successful and go to proxmark3 command line.
cd client/ ./proxmark3 /dev/ttyACM0
